High school: wrestling, football, high jump
College: football (2 years)
After I stepped away from football, I ran a 5K in college and I realized that my endurance was lacking so I started running. I was invited to run a Spartan Race by Reebok in 2014. I was hooked and entered an obstacle course race (OCR)/running phase between 2014-2021. I started to race in the elite and competitive heats, usually placing middle of the pack in these races which were between 3 and 15 miles. In the “open” category, I fared better. My top placement was #9 in my age group at a BattleFrog obstacle race (#36/929 overall), which qualified me for the age group category of the 2016 OCR World Championship. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to compete in that race due to my schedule being overwhelmed from a long racing year. I also placed #23 in my age group at the 2015 Spartan Race World Championship Open Category, which was 127/1413 overall. My Athlinks profile says I’ve completed 39 races but I think it’s closer to 50. Since suffering several severe injuries, I haven’t returned to OCRs. I’ve shifted my training style more towards aesthetics but I still keep up with my cardio in and out the gym.
